Promise to Go Green and Receive 250Gb of File Storage for Free

SmashingApps and FileDropper have teamed up to save the earth, your files, and your wallet in a fantastic campaign to help avert climate change in exchange for online storage. If you promise to share documents electronically instead of printing them, an enormous difference can be made benefiting the environment. Specifically, SmashingApps cites the fact that for every ton of paper you recycle that 7000 gallons of water are conserved, 380 gallons of oil are saved, and enough electricity is conserved to power a typical house for six months.

To help combat the alarming amount of paper used by the average American, SmashingApps is providing promos to use with FileDropper that will provide you with 250GB of free file hosting (good until 2038). The catch is that you have to make a pledge to go green and link back to the original post on SmashingApps (which can be found here). A pledge consists of a publicly visible (on the internet) promise to make a change in your paper and printing habits though I’m sure any eco-friendly promise will be appreciated. Ideas for displaying your pledge are twitter posts, blog posts, youtube videos, flickr images, scribd articles, forums postings, and whatever else pops into your head. Your final step is to fill out a form on FileDropper.

“Once you have made the pledge post the link to your promise in the comments below and sign up for your free file hosting account using this form you will need to enter “smashingapps” in the special code field. The last date to create your free account will be Friday, January 30, 2009.” [SmashingApps]

Be sure to post a link to your presentation on the original article page on SmashingApps so they can verify your contribution. That’s it, 250GB of free file hosting. Enjoy and feel good as you’re now green with a gift.
